"Long-Billed Curlew"

As its name implies, the Long-Billed Curlew stands out for its long, curved down bill and its large size. In fact, this is North America's largest shorebird. Although the Long-billed Curlew's diet includes many species of invertebrates like grasshoppers and beetles, and some vertebrates, its bill is best adapted for capturing shrimp and crabs living in deep burrows on tidal mudflats or burrowing earthworms in pastures. The Long-billed Curlew is considered "vulnerable" in Canada and "highly imperiled" by the U.S. Shorebird Conservation Plan because of declines and threats to both it's breeding and wintering areas. This beautiful Preening Long-Billed Curlew was hand carved and painted by Mr. Williams in a traditional Eastern Shore Gunning Style with a removable bill. purchase $300
